Description

  • width 9cm, 3 1/2 in
oval, made for the Turkish market, the lid enamelled with a marine view, after the manner of Lacroix of Marseille, cunningly seen through a rose diamond-set openwork chased gold portico, split pearl border, the sides and base enamelled in blue over honeycomb engine-turning, the sides unusually divided by taille d'épargne sailing ships

Condition

One diamond missing at top of column; enamel on base appears to have been restored; also has four scrapes at edge of ground on base. Unusual and dramatic box.
