A late George III mahogany secretaire bookcase

  • 266cm. high, 144cm. wide, 47cm. deep; 8ft. 7¾in., 1ft. 9½in.
the secretaire drawer fitted with smaller drawers and pigeonholes, the lower panelled drawers opening to reveal an interior fitted with an associated cedarwood slide above two banks of  four drawers, altered bracket feet and some losses

Condition

Cracks to 12 glazed panels. Chips to pediment and cornice. The left cornice frieze return has evidence of old repaired damage as there are a series of fracture lines to the veneers. Keyhole to right door to upper section missing. Plugged holes to outer edges to doors and evidence of other repairs. Left hand waist moulding to top of lower section with partial losses. Minor patched repair to left hand top front corner of lower section. Writing drawer stands proud. Ink stains to interior of writing drawer. Old repaired damage above central gilt metal escutcheon to writing drawer. Lock to writing drawer replaced. Minor losses to beading around writing drawer. Gouge above left lower door caused by catch pin. Left door to lower section with a small missing section of veneer to top left corner. Losses to bracket feet and veneer above rear right bracket foot. Lower section left side with brusing. Sliding tray to interior of lower section could be later and has some loss to facing on right side. General old marks and scratches consistent with age. Very good colour and patina.
