Description

  • W. Eugene Smith
  • ANDREA DORIA - NUN WAITING FOR SURVIVORS
annotated in ink in the margin, the photographer's collection stamp, added posthumously, 1956 (Johnson 24:001)

Condition

This print, printed purposefully off center, is on double-weight paper with a surface sheen. It is in generally fair to good condition. The tips of the lower margin corners of the print were removed by the photographer, an indication that he favored the print quality of this particular photograph. The annotation in blue ink reads: 'matched to Deja-Vue show print/Hold, if possible.' The paper is wavy, and in raking light, four sharp handling creases, the largest of which breaks the emulsion, are visible at the center and center right portion of the print. There are other sharp creases in the margins. On the reverse, the number '8' in the center of the print in pencil, is boxed.
