Description

  • Walker Evans
  • VICKSBURG, MISSISSIPPI
signed in pencil on the reverse, 1936, probably printed in the 1970s (F.S.A. 130)

Condition

This contact print, on double-weight paper with a light surface sheen and hinged to a modern mount, is in generally excellent condition. There are 4 small crimped impressions in the corners of the margin, likely from clips used during processing. Visible upon close examination in the stairs are 2 tiny pin-point-sized nicks to the top layer of emulsion that appear to have been retouched. In the lower left quadrant, there are 3 tiny horizontal surface indentations that do not break the emulsion and which are only visible in raking light. The top edge of the print is slightly rippled where it has been hinged. When examined under a black light, this print appears to fluoresce.
