Description
- Manuel Álvarez Bravo
- 'Parábola Optica'
mounted, signed, annotated 'Mexico,' and inscribed 'Al Dr. Ricardo Diaz Conty' in pencil on the mount, framed, 1931, probably printed in the 1960s or 1970s (Documentary and Anti-Graphic, cover [cropped] and p. 59)
Condition
This photograph is in generally excellent condition. The lower right corner of the print is lifting slightly from the mount, and there is occasional minor edge chipping at the periphery. Visible in raking light in the lower left center edge of the print are small pinpoint indentations that do not break the emulsion.
There are two small areas of light soiling on the mount along the left center edge. A tack-hole is barely visible in each of the corners of the mount, as well as two ½-inch linear and vertical cuts in the top left corner that do not penetrate the mount completely.
On the reverse along the top edge of the mount are brown adhesions from a previous paper or mount.

Catalogue Note
Manuel Álvarez Bravo's inscription on the mount of the print offered here indicates that the photograph was originally given by Bravo to Dr. Ricardo Diaz Conty, a respected psychoanalyst in Mexico. Dr. Conty published widely on a variety of psychiatric topics in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, and founded a clinic in Monterrey, Mexico, which bears his name.
