Condition

These early prints, on double-weight paper with a surface sheen, have creamy white tones and are in varying condition, from fair to very good. The edges are rubbed, with some small emulsion losses. The corners are bumped and creased, and several of the corners have small emulsion losses. When examined in raking light, small handling creases are visible. Some of these break the emulsion. Most are lightly soiled on the reverse.

Catalogue Note

Garry Winogrand was one of few press photographers allowed to photograph Marilyn Monroe in the New York townhouse that served as a location for Billy Wilder's 1955 film, 'The Seven Year Itch.'  Although many photographers were present during the famous scene when the actress stood over the subway grate in her white dress, only a handful of photographers, including Winogrand, recorded her off-camera in this more intimate setting.
