Condition
These photographs, on a variety of papers, are in fair to excellent condition as noted.
'East Hampton' - This photograph is heavily silvered in the dark areas of the image. Along the left edge of the image are various pin-point indentations that do not break the emulsion. On the reverse is a heavy scattering of foxing.
Tree with gull, 1981 - This photograph is highly silvered in the dark areas of the image.
'Disappearing Act, 1955'
Rooster, 1981 - There is light silvering along the top edge of the image.
'I lost my head, 1982'
'Key West, Florida, 1967' - There are 2 crescent-shaped handling creases on the right edge of the image. The top edge of the print is slightly rippled and there is darkening along the print edges.
Glass Statue - There are various handling creases throughout the image and there is a 3-inch horizontal tear extending from the left edge of the print; this tear has been taped on the reverse. On the reverse are fingerprints, light foxing, and various remnants of cellophane and masking tape.
Vessel/Loving Cup - There are various handling creases that slightly break the emulsion, as well as a 5-inch diagonal faint surface scratch in the center of the image that does not break the emulsion. Also visible are minor edge chipping and a ¼-inch tear along the right edge of the print. Heavily yellowed remnants of adhesive from dry-mounting tissue are visible on the reverse.

Catalogue Note
The one-page letter that accompanies this lot is in Kertész's hand, in ink, in Hungarian. It appears on the back of an age-darkened photocopy of Hilton Kramer's lengthy review of a Kertész exhibition that was published in The New York Times on 17 January 1973. The exhibition, André Kertész: Themes and Variations, was held at the Hallmark Gallery at Fifth Avenue and 56th Street.
