Description

  • Anna Atkins
  • 'ADIANTUM TENERUM'
cyanotype photogram, titled in the image, mounted, framed, a Fraenkel Gallery label on the reverse, early 1850s

Condition

This cyanotype, with vibrant dark blue coloring, is in generally very good to excellent condition. There are a few small, faint deposits of indeterminate nature visible in the image. As is typical of these album pages, the leaf mount is rippled. There is faint sunning on the mount at the periphery of image, and the left mount edge is worn. Faint impressions left by the matting corners are visible in the margin corners of the mount and on the reverse. None of these issues detracts from the fine appearance of this early cyanotype. On the reverse, the mount is somewhat soiled, but this does not affect the image. The reverse is annotated '1241.13,' 'Anna Atkins,' and 'AA+114.Y' in an unidentified hand in pencil.
