Description
- Robert Frank
- 'LONDON'
signed, titled, and dated in the margin, framed, 1951
Provenance
Acquired by the present owner from Marlborough Gallery, New York, 1976
Literature
Black White and Things, pl. 16; London/Wales, p. 33
Condition
This warm-toned early print, on double-weight paper with a slight surface sheen, is in generally very good condition. The margin corners are bumped, and there are pinholes in each. The only disruption to the print's soft surface sheen is an extremely faint linear stroke of indeterminate nature running horizontally in the center of the print. This visible only under the closest examination at the right angle in raking light.
There is minor soiling on the reverse, and a slight rippling of the paper that is not visible on the recto, is visible on the left edge of the reverse.
This is believed to be an early print because is printed on the warm-toned paper that Frank favored in the 1950s and 1960s, and it does not appear to fluoresce when examined under a black light.
