Description

  • George Wilson Bridges
  • Unknown Temple Undergoing Restoration, c. 1848
Calotype negative, a faded number (300?) in pencil on the reverse.

Condition

The upper left corner has almost completely lost a small portion of paper, still attached by only a few fibres. The paper is a fraction more stained than others in this group. Its upper and lower edges were missed at the time of sensitizing, and therefore show the colour of the paper. It is possible that Bridges himself found this negative less satisfactory than some; the sky is unretouched, as though he had decided it not to be worth full completion. Nevertheless, it has survived in admirable condition.
