Catalogue Note

This portrait is from a series of studies Felix Nadar made of Jean Journet (1799-1861) in 1857. The 'apostle' of the utopian Socialist doctrine by Charles Fourier (1772-1837) was highly admired by Nadar who represents him as a saint in the style of classical Spanish painting.
