  • bronze, on mottled green and veined red marble bases

Condition

Overall the condition of the bronzes is good. There is some minor dirt to the surface consistent with age and wear to the patina consistent with age and handling. There are some naturally occurring fissures to the base and a few minor chips to the lower edge.

Similar bronze groups with bacchic putti and animals are generally regarded as being inspired by Jacques Sarazin's marble Two children with a goat (Musée du Louvre, no. R.F. 1843). Compare bronzes sold at Sotheby's Monte Carlo on 22 June 1991, lot 552 and at Sotheby's Paris on 20 October 2005, lot 152.
