inscribed in red ink: F.678 in pencil: 584 L and 139. in black ink on a white label

Condition

Overall the condition of the marble is good. There is some minor wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is a reattached chip to the lower lip and there are a few minor chips including the proper right nostril and possibly a curl at the proper right shoulder.

Catalogue Note

The present bust relates closely to several of Algardi's busts and figures of saints. Compare to the gilt bronze bust of St James the Greater in Il Gesù in Rome.
