Condition

Overall the condition of the bell is very good. There is some minor wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. Joints from the original wax model are visible along the bands. There are a few minor chips along the edge of the bell. The handle has been reattached.

Catalogue Note

Compare two signed bells with the same decorative motifs on the bands in the Victoria and Albert Museum (A.16-1973 and A.7-1987) and another bell from a private collection published by Avery. The present bell will be included in Dr Charles Avery's forthcoming monograph on Giuseppe de Levis as no. 78.
