Description

  • two reliefs with the Flagellation and Deposition
  • partially gilt alabaster, in original gilt wood frames
  • Flemish, Malines, first half 17th century

Condition

There is wear and some minor dirt to the surface consistent with age and material. There are stable naturally occurring fissures throughout both reliefs consistent with material. There is wear to the gilding and traces of further polychromy remain at the lips of each figure. The Flagellation has small losses to Christ's proper right ankle and the top right corner. The Deposition has a small loss to the top left corner and to the centre of the lower ledge. Both frames have some wear to the painted surface.
