Description

  • belt-buckle with two walking birds
  • gilt and silvered metal with niello
together with a Byzantine bronze applique with the Annunciation, 15th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the buckle is good. There is some wear to the surface consistent with age and handling. A section on the left side of the niello is rubbed. A small piece of velcro is attached to the reverse for mounting the buckle in its box. The bronze relief has several restored fissures and small losses to the left edge and bottom right corner. There is some greening to the crevices.
