Overall the condition of the ivory is very good. There is some minor wear and dirt consistent with age. The outside is slightly discoloured and worn due to handling. There are some minor naturally occurring hairline cracks to the surface, particularly visible coming down from God's proper right elbow and the section at the underside of the relief. There are some minor chips along the edge of the relief, a larger one is near God's head. There are minor losses to the top of the crib and St. Joseph's thumb of the proper right hand.
