Description

  • corpus
  • ivory, in a painted wood frame with a red velvet background

Condition

Overall the condition of the ivory is very good. There is dirt and some minor wear consistent with age. The part of the perezonium that hangs of Christ's proper right side was seperately carved. The arms were also carved seperately and joined at the shoulder, the peg that slots in the shoulder at the proper left arm has broken making this arm slightly loose. On the top of the head there is an ivory plug visible which covers the root canal of the tusk. There are minor chips at the front of the crown of thorns, to the beard right under Christ's chin and to the big toe of the proper right leg.
