The painting is cooler in tone than the catalogue illustration. The thick wooden support is cradled with wood and aluminium. The paint surface is secure and under a thick discoloured varnish. Some craquelure is present, particularly along the panel joins. Some retouching is visible on the wing of the angel to the right. Inspection under UV light reveals some cosmetic retouchings and along the panel joins and, for example, on the cheek of Jesus, on the neck and sleeve of the Virgin. The Renaissance tondo is offered in beautiful thick, elaborate, carved and gilded garlanded frame.
