Description

  • Margherita Caffi
  • Still life of roses, parrot tulips and other flowers in a brass urn upon a ledge
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The painting is yellower in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is secure and under a discoloured varnish. Though the darker background areas appear in parts a little abraded, the impasto on the flowers is well preserved. Some minor frame abradion is present but otherwise no other damages are obvious to the naked eye. Inspection under UV light reveals minor scattered retouchings but the painting otherwise appears in sound condition. A new varnish would improve the tonality of the painting. Offered in a wood and plaster frame with some knocks.
