Description
- A study of three children
- oil on panel
Condition
The panel has split vertically down the centre but remains stable thanks to two horizontal bars affixed to the reverse (which may have been the cause of the split). There is some uneveness to the panel's surface, notably to the margins, and a dent (0.5 by 2 cm) to the centre left margin. The paint surface, although obscured by layers of dirt, is extremely well preserved. The ground layer seems not to quite reach each margin. Inspection under ultra-violet light is inhibityed by the thick varnish and dirt but does show some signs of minor strengthening. Sold with a later gild frame, in good condition.
