Description

  • Simon Hardimé
  • Still life of roses, daffodils, morning glory, hydrangea, snowballs, and other flowers in a basket on a stone ledge
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

Anonymous sale, London, Sotheby's, 8 December 1976, lot 107 (as Pieter Hardimé);
Anonymous sale, London, Sotheby's, 11 December 2003, lot 223 (as Simon Hardimé).

Condition

The actual painting is slightly softer than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has an old wax relining. The paint surface is under a fairly clear varnish. The paint surface is fairly abraded, particularly in the background, and subsequent over paint is visible to the naked eye. Additional retouchings can be observed in the ledge and basket and some tiny ones in the flowers. Under UV light the paint surface looks more substantially restored. Offered in an elaborate decorative gilt plaster and wood frame in good condition.
