Acquired by Viscount of Alverca Jose Pais do Amaral Coelho;

Condition
The actual painting is softer in tone and shows less contrast than the catalogue illustration suggests. The single panel is sound and beveled on all but the lower edges. Minor frame abrasion is visible along the lower and right edges. There's a tiny dent in the upper centre left. The paint layer is secure if a little abraded in some areas, e.g. centre left, and in the background figures, and is under a dirty vanish layer. Inspection under UV light is largely impeded by the varnish, but does reveal small scattered retouchings, mainly in the old man in the centre and in the background figures.
Offered in a decorative gilt wood frame in good condition. (MW)
