Description

  • Small Dutch sailing vessels near the coastline of the city of Dordrecht, a group of figures with their dogs on the shore in the foreground
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The actual painting is warmer and less red in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has a slightly firm relining. A repaired and retouched rectangular tear is visible in the sail of the central ship. Two other vertical repaired and retouched tears are visible along the right edge and in the left half of the painting. The paint surface is secure, if quite thin in the lower foreground and in the water. Inspection under UV light reveals some scattered spots of retouching in the clouds and water, and strengthening in the central ship and in the left figure. Offered in a plain gilt wood frame in fair condition. (MW)
