Description
- The wedding feast at Cana
- signed with initials centre left: I H
- oil on panel
Condition
The actual painting is deeper and more colourful in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panels appears to consist of 4 planks joined horizontally, and is a little warped. Tow thin horizontal splits are visible along both the left and right edges. There's a fine craquelure thoughout, which is slightly beginning to lift in some areas, e.g. in the upper left corner and along the splits. There's one tine fleck of paint loss in the centre. The paint surface is very well preserved, and is under a dry and dirty varnish layer. Under UV light some tiny scattered retouchings and strengthenings can be made out, mainly in th upper background and upper left corner. Most of the figures appear to be wonderfully intact.
Offered in a later plain wood frame in good condition. (MW)
