The colours in the catalogue are representative of those in the painting. The canvas has been relined and it is offered in an ebonised and parcel-gilt XVII Century-style frame. To the naked eye two minor repairs are apparent on the saint’s hands, as the catalogue illustration suggest as well, and a ‘L’ shaped area of restoration (about 15 x 15 cm.) is slightly visible on his left shoulder and on the background. Inspection under ultra-violet light confirms the afore-mentioned restoration and reveals few strengthenings around the cock and in some dark areas in the drapery folds.
