Condition
The catalogue illustration is representative of the painting, if not a little over-exposed.
The panel has been cradled and it is offered in a gilt XVIII-Century style frame.
To the naked eye only two small vertical cracks are slightly visible from the upper margin to the tulip. These cracks are more apparent from the catalogue illustration than from the painting itself. No major restoration or damages can be seen.
Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals strengthenings on the dark background and few tiny scattered restoration on the still life.

Questo raffinato vaso di fiori è uno dei tasselli che concorrono a definire la fisionomia di naturamortista di Carlo Antonio Procaccini, il cui catalogo è in corso di sempre maggiore precisazione. Il confronto più stringente è con un vaso di fiori in collezione privata svizzera, di cui il nostro, per misure e composizione, potrebbe rappresentare il pendant (vedi A. Cottino, Natura silente, Nuovi studi sulla natura morta italiana, Torino 2007, pp. 97-98, tav. 79, p. 96). "La qualità di questo quadretto è purissima " (ibidem, p. 97) e mostra come una base di cultura ancora manierista, a cui si deve per esempio la descrizione minuziosa dei ceselli e delle preziosità del vaso metallico, venga vivificata dal pittore con l'uso di una luce fortemente analitica che dona risalto al dato naturalistico e alla rappresentazione botanica.
