The colours in the catalogue are representative of those in the painting, but the original is a little warmer in tones, notably in the sky. The canvas has been relined and it is offered in a moulded gilt XVIII Century-style frame. To the naked eye no major restoration or damages can be seen. The paint surface appears a little abraded in areas. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals pictorial retouchings in the sky and some areas of repair, most evident are a vertical line going from the lower margin to the upper, other areas in the water and on the rocks and in the centre of the composition. This restoration does not interfere with the figures, that appears in good condition.
