The catalogue illustration is representative of the painting, except the tones of the sky are a little bit warmer in the original. The canvas has an old relining and it is mounted in a gilt XVII-Century style frame. To the naked eye the painting appears in good state and no major restoration or damages can be seen, except for an area of repair in the horizon near the sails of the boat in the centre, visible from the catalogue illustration as well. Inspection under ultra-violet light confirms the afore-mentioned restoration and reveals pictorial retouchings, notably in the sky and in the water, and a major area of repair in the centre of the sky (about 10 cm) probably covering an old cut.
