Description

  • Sinibaldo Scorza
  • Orpheus charming the animals
  • dated lower right: MDCXXVIII
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The painting is brighter than the catalogue illustration suggests. The clean paint surface is in fair condition with no major damages visible to the naked eye. However, the relining of the canvas has somewhat flattened the paint surface which appears abraded in certain areas such as the sky and the cow lower left. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered retouchings, for example along the craquelure. Offered in a wood and plaster frame with some old knocks.
