Description
- Jacob de Backer
- The Sacrifice of Isaac
- oil on panel
Condition
The support consists of three vertical panels which are flat. The joins are visible on the front. A vertical split in the central panel can be made out and some paint loss has occurred along this split. The paint surface is dirty and under a yellowed varnish. The paint in Abraham's cloak has oxidised. Discoloured retouchings can be made out as well as some surface scratches. UV light reveals further retouchings and strengthenings under the varnish as well as older retouchings and repaint in the sky. The painting would benefit from a clean and some structural conservative intervention.
