Description

  • Alberto Pullicino
  • Malta, a View of Valetta from Marsamxett Harbour
  • oil on canvas, unframed

Condition

The canvas has an old but still effective relining. Part of an old frame is stick to the right edge of the relining. The paint surface is secure with fine craquelure, dirty, and under a discoloured varnish. Two vertical lines, probably old seams, can be made out centre and to the left of the composition. Minor scattered paint losses can be made out, as well as areas of discoloured retouching in the sky visible to the naked eye. Inspection under UV light reveals further retouchings, though these are scattered and localised. The painting would benefit from a clean.
