The modern relining is still effective. The paint surface has become flattened and is under a yellowed varnish. Discoloured retouchings are visible to the naked eye as well as restored damages such as a tear by the face, and other restored damages upper centre. The paint is flaking off in certain areas and old frame abrasion has been infilled with repaint along the edges. Inspection under UV light reveals some further retouchings. An old horizontal seam in the centre of the canvas has been retouched and this has now discoloured. The painting is in need of some restorative attention.
