STRUCTURE
The canvas has an old lining, which is still providing a stable support for the painting
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be in fairly good condition. There is scattered retouching in the background, in the upper section of the canvas. The paint is slightly thin in the background detail, and there is a discoloured varnish and dirt overall.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light confirms the retouchings in the upper background. There is a slightly opaque varnish overall.
FRAME
held in a British Baroque style gilded wooden frame.
