Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The canvas is lined and the paint surface is mostly sound and secure with some recent paint losses to the sky, upper left. The majority of the paint is in a good untouched, original condition, however, some of the more vulnerable areas, such as the glazes and scumbles to the ships' rigging, the shadows of sails, the water and the buildings in the mid-ground have been compromised and strengthened. The varnish is heavily degraded and discoloured, removing it would improve the tonality substantially.
Offered in a carved gilt wood frame, in good condition."
