Description

  • A Brigand
  • oil on canvas

Condition

There is a vertical seam running 20 sm fro the left edge of the relined canvas and a corresponding added strip of canvas on the reverse. The paint surface is under a dirty varnish and is abraded in several areas. Discoloured retouchings can be made out with the naked eye. Along the right edge stretcher marks are visible and at upper right badly restored past damage can be made out. Inspection under UV light reveals strengthenings to the seam and other scattered retouchings. The painting would benefit from some restorative attention. Offered in a wood and plaster frame with some losses.
