Description
- Agnolo Bronzino
- Portrait of a boy, head and shoulders, wearing a black coat with a white collar
- oil on panel
Condition
The support consists of a single slightly warped panel which has split horizontally across the middle and is cradled to the reverse. One of the two vertical batons of the cradling has since been removed. There is a horizontal crack of approx 10 cm lower left.
The paint surface is secure, apart from along the line of the split where the paint has started to lift, and is under a glossy varnish. It appears as if the panel was once framed in a smaller frame and there are lines that suggest this approx 5 cm from the each edge. Old discoloured retouchings are noticeable in these areas, particularly on the left hand edge. Inspection under UV light confirms these and other scattered minor retouchings.
Offered in a later wood and black paint frame in fair condition.
