Catalogue Note

The design of the former follows that of Antonio Canaletto's view of Northumberland House, at Charing Cross, painted in 1752. To the right of the compostion sits Hubert Le Sueur's equestrian statue of Charles I, now at the entrance of Whitehall, whilst on the left is the entrace to the Strand, with the Golden Cross Inn prominently advertised by its distictive sign board.
