Condition

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The canvas is lined but has lost tension and become deformed as a result. The paint surface is stable but slightly raised and there is a small Y-shaped , restored damage to the centre. Under Ultra-violet light a small scattering of retouchings can be seen across the surface and to the edges where minor paint losses have occurred . Thinned areas of paint, e.g. back of the head of the seated woman in blue, left, the shadow of the table , left and the kettle, lower left, have been augmented. Overall, the painting is in a good original condition with the paint well preserved. The presence of under-drawing can be seen through the thinner passages of paint and a tonal improvement would be achieved with the removal of the varnish. Offered in a carved gilt frame with losses."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues.
