Catalogue Note
Passarotti is documented as being in Rome on 12 June 1551, when he was reported for an argument with a certain Agostino Gambara. This substantiates Vincenzo Borghini's claim that Pasarotti stayed in Rome early in his career. The style of this drawing certainly shows a strong influence of Raphael, together with a powerful approach to proportion reminiscent of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel. Another drawing by Passarotti which is also highly influenced by Raphael is a Massacre of the Innocents, in the Uffizi, Florence.
