  • a bearded man sprawled on the ground with his right arm raised
  • Pen and brown ink and wash; all corners cut and the left bottom edge made up

Provenance

Max Hevesi, Vienna (the mark of his gallery, recto on the backing sheet, not in Lugt)

Condition

Not in perfect condition, the corners are cut but the bottom edge to the left corner is made up to the middle of the sheet. The paper is light brown and from the verso there are spots from a fungus, not visible on the recto.

Catalogue Note

This can be associated with another study for the same figure in the same position now in the Victoria and Albert Museum (inv. no. Dyce 350), which Michael Mahoney dates to the early 1660's.1
