Catalogue Note
The composition commemorates the marriage of Hans Wilpert Zoller (1528-1577), a high-ranking Zürich citizen, and his second wife, Esther Reutner from Wil, whom he married on 23 December 1557. The commission probably dates from no earlier than the 1570s as Zoller only gained his civic status (as indicated in the inscription) in 1571. Another fragmentary design by the same unknown draughtsman is in the Kunsthaus, Zürich.
