Condition

Unframed. Vertical crease towards right edge. Loss and tear, top left corner, repaired with an early backing sheet. Minor creases and tears down both sides. Light brown stains at bottom and towards top right. Some surface dirt, but ink and wash very good and strong.

Catalogue Note

Schärer became a master in Zürich in 1608 and worked there until his death.  His works are very rare but those that are known are close in style to Christoph Murer, and it is likely that Schärer was his pupil.
