Condition

Cradled panel. There are several small vertical cracks in panel at the upper edge and a long crack across the center. The surface is stable but there are areas where paint has lifted and has been stabilized, particularly along the left and right edges; these retouches are visible with the naked eye. The varnish is yellowed and slightly soiled; very fine craquelure at center right and a small chip of paint loss on the hand. Under UV light: large areas of inpainting as mentioned above, a large area at upper right, another large area at upper left near the edge; some inpainting on the red mantle but no inpainting on the figure.
