Elève de Morelli et de Dalbuono à l'Académie de Naples, Michetti débuta dans cette ville en 1877. Il obtint deux médailles d'or à Berlin en 1886 et 1891 et une médaille d'or à l'Exposition Universelle de 1900 à Paris. Il est considéré comme l'un des grands peintres italiens du XIXème siècle.
