Condition

Very good overall condition. Original canvas. Most likely, the painting has been cleaned in the past, though it is still slightly dirty. Gold-painted moulded plaster and wood frame. Under ultraviolet light: No visible repaints.

Catalogue Note

Probablement peint vers 1897. On connaît deux autres tableaux de même sujet par Thaulow, l'un peint en 1885; l'autre fut vendu à la Galerie Georges Petit le 11 juin 1900, no. 86.

La statue du Condottiere Bartolomeo Colleone se trouve sur le Campo dei Santi Giovanni Paolo à Venise. Elle est l'oeuvre d'Andrea del Verrochio qui y travailla jusqu'à sa mort en 1488. Elle fut terminée par le sculpteur Alessandro Leopardi et dévoilée aux Vénitiens en 1496.
