Condition

Relined. There are cracks that have been restored, mainly on the lower part. The painting has been restored and revarnished. Beautiful gilded wood frame with palmettes

Catalogue Note

Il s'agit très probablement d'une étude pour le grand Portrait de Charles X en costume de sacre signé et daté Lefevre 1825, passé en vente à Paris le 12 octobre 2005. Une copie datée 1826, est conservée au Musée du Louvre. On note certaines différences entre notre esquisse et le tableau abouti. La charte qui est posée sur le tabouret dans le tableau présenté ici, a été remplacée par la main de justice dans la version finale. De même la Victoire soutenant le rideau n'apparaît pas dans le tableau achevé, où elle est remplacée par une colonne monumentale.
