Provenance

Selon la tradition familiale, le tableau serait entré dans la famille dans les années 1920. Acquis probablement auprès de l'artiste.

Condition

Good overall condition. Original canvas. Cracks that have been restored on the part of the wall by the window as well as on the red curtain. Gilt wood frame to be restored. Under ultraviolet light: Small scattered repaints on the black surface.

Catalogue Note

Alexandre Altmann fit ses études aux Beaux-Arts d'Odessa. Il quitta Odessa en 1905 et gagna Paris où il trouva un atelier à la Ruche.
Dès 1910, Altmann connut la notoriété à la suite de l'exposition de son tableau L'Inondation de Paris et bénéficia de commandes officielles pour plusieurs bâtiments publics (Ministère des Affaires Etrangères, Palais du Luxembourg, etc.).
