Condition

This painting is on a single softwood panel. There are traces of xylophagous insects. The panel has been thin down, then doubled and cradled. Under a shiny and quite heavy varnish. There is a vertical slit in the centre of the panel, from the angel's shoulder to the lower edge. UV light: In the sky, there is an horizontal restoration strip from the centre of the composition to the right edge, to fill the gaps (see image after cleaning). Several dots in the sky, in the angel's wing to the left, in his right arm, in his eye in the centre, in the legs in the foreground and along the slit previously mentioned.

Catalogue Note

Cette composition perdue de Bartolomeo Schedone était connue par une copie donnée à Sisto Badalocchio (Parme, Galerie Nationale).1  L'attitude de l'ange prenant des fruits fait écho à une autre oeuvre de Schedone, Cupidon, conservée à Naples, Museo di Capodimonte.2
