Condition
Single panel uncradled, flat, and appears to be stable. Panel is beveled on all four sides. Overall picture presents a handsome image. Some thinness and slight abrasion especially in the costume of the sitter, where it appears that some of the red ground is coming through. It appears that the sitter formerly wore a gold chain and medallion of which only traces remain. The edges of the sitter's cap also appear to be to be abraded. Under a thick dirty varnish. U.v. reveals retouches to costume and background and a few areas of retouching in flesh tones, especially the hands, including a spot of retouching at the tip of the nose. It is possible that there are other retouches to costume and background and a few areas of retouching in the flesh tones, including a spot of retouching at the tip of the nose. It is possible that there are other retouches that are obscured by varnish.
In a carved and gilt wood frame with minor abrasion to gilding.
